Experienced Non-Manager

The Production Planner is responsible for the planning and execution of the activities necessary to meet SSP's on time delivery metric, while meeting finished goods and inventory goals. This position reports to the Supply Chain Manager and works with other staff to help keep schedules on track and in-house inventory at a minimum. The role works with multiple departments to meet customer requirements for on-time delivery and production efficiency. This position requires strong organizational and communication skills to identify and mitigate any potential challenges to the planning of production schedules. Coordination with operations, quality, and sales is required to develop schedules for all new orders to meet internal metrics.

Success will be measured by:

  • Scheduling of orders within 24 hours
  • Inventory levels not exceeding SSP target
  • Ship to promise >98%
  • Adhering to SSP's core principles
Duties and responsibilities
  • Organizes, plans and creates production schedules to meet SSP's on time delivery metric.
  • Identifies and helps to resolve bottlenecks, part shortages, machine maintenance, and work force issues.
  • Must maintain a level of flexibility and urgency with orders requiring faster processing than the current process allows.
  • Provides commitment dates to customer service based on capacity within our master schedule using our ERP system. Analyze demand and expedites against our current master schedule to determine production plans.
  • Works with production supervisors to obtain feedback about production status and modifies schedules as needed.
  • Creates and modifies manufacturing strategies for new product introductions and existing products to support production schedule.
  • Issues daily production schedule that make the most efficient use of time and resources. Make recommendations to the production supervisors regarding the need to shift production personnel and overtime requirements.
  • Monitors stocking levels of raw materials and production supplies and places purchase orders for replenishment.
  • Updates purchase order receipt dates, if necessary, after order confirmations from vendor are received.
  • Monitors daily receipts and expedite orders with vendors as needed to ensure timely delivery of goods.
  • Assists the creation of Bills of Material (BOMs) and routings that allows accurate tracking of component usage and accurate inventory movement transactions.
  • Update and maintain part masters with respect to production methods based on the input of the production supervisors.
  • Review usage of produced parts to determine and update stocking strategies and the associated stock settings in the ERP/MRP system.
  • Use and update the MRP system to ensure data integrity.
  • Support month end activities of the business to ensure work orders and/or batch sheets are processed timely and inventory is correct.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's degree, 2-5 years of related experience in production planning/scheduling in a manufacturing environment.
  • High degree of analytical skills related to planning and being hands-on with manufacturing requirements.
  • Must be able to work well with others and efficiently handle internal pressures, and adapt to business process changes as they occur.
  • Inventory control and expediting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Computer proficient: experience in MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, Power Point. Good working knowledge and understanding of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, while prioritizing business-based needs
  • Ability to read, write, analyze and interpret product information, production schedules, and other process documentation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Salary Range: $75,000 -$85,000
