Description
As a Worksite Wellness Intern, you will be an integral part of the Council's wellness team. The intern will have the opportunity to work on a number of small and large-scale health promotion projects and events. The health promotion projects range from program development and implementation to assessment and evaluation. Projects include but are not limited to evaluating one or more health programs, updating stretch program materials, and developing stress management resources and materials. Not only will the Wellness Intern have the opportunity to take a lead role with the promotion and implementation of several health programs but they will have the ability to actively contribute and assist with other wellness initiative, projects and programs. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in the worksite health promotion and/or public health field. This is a full time (40hrs/week) paid internship that will begin on May 30th, 2018 and go part-time during the school year.

Who is the Metropolitan Council?
The Metropolitan Council is made up of several operating divisions that service the Twin Cities Metropolitan area in a number of ways.
- Metro Transit provides bus and light rail public transportation for the greater metropolitan area
- Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) manages wastewater treatment plants and the regional wastewater collection system for the seven county metropolitan region
- Community Development is responsible for helping the Council shape its regional growth plan and Metro HRA provides affordable housing programs in the region
- Metropolitan Transportation Services (MTS) is responsible for the transportation planning functions as the Twin Cities metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation
- Regional Administration provides support services (Finance, Payroll, HR, etc) for the Council
Examples of Duties
- Lead a project to revise and update several outdated health promotions including MetStretch cards, Wellness Champion promotional materials, and Healthy Routes program
- Assess and/or evaluate a health program (nutrition, Transit Police health program, and the min-grant wellness program), analyzing survey feedback and making program recommendations
- Plan and coordinate several health video projects for bus operators, working with the Metro Transit Instruction Center to create 10-15 short segments on healthy eating on the road, fitness on the bus, and other related topics
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be enrolled in a post-secondary education program OR Be a recent graduate (within 12 months) from a post-secondary education program
- Able to work Full time during the summer and part time during the school year
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Strong knowledge of health promotion, community health, or public health or related field
- Skilled communicator both orally and in writing
- Health program planning and development skills or health research and evaluation skills
DEGREE PROGRAM/AREA OF STUDY PREFERRED- Community Health Promotion, Public Health, or Worksite Health Promotion or related field
- MHA or MBA
- Dietetics or Nutrition Science, Exercise Science or Kinesiology, or related field of study
