Overview
The Publication and Creative Services department (Pubs) is American Institutes for Research's (AIR's) central resource for editing, production design, graphic design, and publication management. It is composed of a Publication Director, an Editing Manager, a Production Design Manager, a Creative Services Manager, and staff including copy editors, substantive editors, production designers, an art director, and graphic artists.
The specific types of material handled in Creative services portion of the Pubs group vary and may include original collateral materials for toolkits, brochures, posters, infographics, and specialty items for our corporate office and federal government clients.
Equipment and software needed to produce high-quality products are current with industry standards. Teamwork, communication, and process are key to the success of the Pubs production environment.
This position is in our Naperville, IL office.
Responsibilities
The Graphic Design Intern will:
*Assist fellow graphic designers, the Art Director, and the Creative Services Manager in the development of materials as needed.
*Utilize design software to design, format, and produce clean, well-organized layouts and files required for efficient printing in Adobe Creative Suite, applying beginning design ability and learning the most recent versions of InDesign; Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat; as well as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
*Assist with Pubs initiatives.
*Communicate status of projects to team members regularly, and obtain status updates from external print vendors as needed
*Be primary and immediate resource for Creative Services Manager
*Perform basic production work, and other support duties as assigned by Creative Services Manager.
*Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required:
*High School Diploma. Junior or Senior in bachelor's degree program with career goal in graphic design for print and the web
*Some experience with publication design principles, including page layout, typography, effective use of color required
Preferred:
*Mac proficiency required
*PC proficiency a plus
*Adobe InDesign (Basic)
*Adobe Photoshop (Basic)
*Adobe Illustrator (Basic)
*Adobe Acrobat (Basic)
*MS Word (Basic)
*MS PowerPoint (Basic)
*Good organizational skills
*Fast learner
*Ability to follow direction
*Willingness to adapt to standards set by the supervisor(s) and team
*Ability to work efficiently and quickly in high-pressure deadline situations while maintaining a positive, "can-do" approach
