Job Description

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, the intern forester will coordinate, plan or assist with vegetation studies, observations and/or audits to improve the OGE utility forestry program.

Primary Duties:

  • Observe and/or audit field work for accuracy and quality
  • Manage projects which may include creation of study parameters, collection of data, supervision of contract arborists, analysis and reporting.
  • Utilize ESRI-based software to record inventory and/or document findings

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent GED).
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in a Life Science field such as Horticulture, Forestry, Biology, Botany, Natural Resource Ecology or Landscape Architecture and expecting to graduate by June 2019.
  • Valid state driver's license

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of dendrology, esp. trees in Oklahoma and Arkansas
  • Ability to learn, understand, and follow safety requirements and the use of personal protective equipment
  • Ability to understand and comply with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Communicate effectively in speech and writing
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to read/create maps and utilize GIS-based applications
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, customers and communities
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnosis problems, and resolve effectively
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust and adapt across varied working conditions
  • Strong Organizational Skills and an ability to adapt to rapidly changing priorities

Working Conditions:

  • Attend meeting and training classes dealing with both technical and procedural skills
  • May be required to perform duties including bending, stooping, walking, reaching overhead, and lifting.
  • May be required to work non-standard work schedules including evenings and weekends.
  • May be exposed to inclement weather
  • May require overnight stays and possibly extended stays of 3-5 days
  • Required to operate motor vehicle safely in all traffic, weather and light conditions
  • May be required to work under hazardous conditions
