Job Summary:

Reporting to the HR Director for the region and based in NYC, the HR business partner (HRBP) is the critical contact point for two of Harvard’s senior business leaders.  Working in partnership with business leaders and HR colleagues, the HRBP is responsible for managing employee relations and day-to-day HR issues nationally for Harvard Services Group (HSG) and Harvard Protections Services (HPS).  This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department and to management

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a point of contact for the business on HR issues to help drive business results
  • Work with business leaders to translate business needs into HR requirements and working environment
  • Responsible for operational HR activities for employees in scope and partner with HR centers of expertise (COE) to ensure compliance with processes related to staffing, compensation, employee relations, immigration, etc. and recommend improvements when possible
  • Guide employees, supervisors and management through investigative processes of employee relations and makes recommendations when necessary
  • Stay current with local and state employment law and labor market and effectively aligns with Branch and HR goals
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
  • Oversee the maintenance of compliance with electronic employee files
  • Recommend innovative approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and cost saving measures
  • Manage the maintenance of employee records and data integrity and compiles reports for Management as requested
  • Facilitate communication among employees and management
  • Guide Management and employee base on problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and litigation avoidance
  • Partner with appropriate colleagues to develop training and staff development to enhance the effectiveness of employee performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the division
  • Ability to collect and research data, use intuition and experience to compliment the data and present the data effectively
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements
  • Seven years minimum as an HR Business Partner (or equivalent in Specialist areas)
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, organizational development, or a related degree required, SHRM certification a plus
  • Experience in a matrix, fast-paced, hourly workforce environment
  • Hands-on in with a union workforce
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) language skills
  • Advance skills in Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet
  • Experience with ATS (iCIMS), HRIS (Winteam)
  • Significant business and financial acumen, as well as general HR functional knowledge
  • Relationship management
  • Change agent with strong personal effectiveness, be accountable, delivery excellence, applying HR expertise, performance communication, influencing others
  • Cultural awareness and organization savvy
  • Attention to detail, adaptable, resilient
  • Ability to coordinate and manage complex cross-functional projects given multiple competing priorities or perspectives
