Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Education department is seeking a full-time Business Systems Analyst, who will play a primary role in supporting projects with data-related needs. The Analyst supports strategy development for the collection, analysis, management and communication of data and metrics to various partners/collaborators.

The Education department is seeking candidates with a demonstrated track record of asking the right questions to understand needs and develop effective solutions, establishing effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels and across teams. Candidates should be capable of sustaining meticulous and diligent work, with a high bar for accuracy. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication.

Job duties include:
  • Interpret/evaluate user needs and gather/analyze relevant data. Develop these into appropriately detailed system workflows or new application requirements.
  • Review/analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems. Develop strategies for improving or identifying additional potential uses for these systems.
  • Define components, interfaces, modules, data and architecture for applications to satisfy specified requirements.
  • Create/maintain documentation for workflow, operating procedures and system administration.
  • Contribute technical skills to projects such as the implementation of business intelligence and data visualization tools, database and warehouse development, ETL processes, statistical analysis, etc.
  • Monitor systems to ensure data integrity, consistency and accuracy.
  • Leverage data visualization tools to design and develop data dashboards and reports to bolster understanding of constituent characteristics and their engagement with Education programming and throughout the Museum.
  • Collaborate closely with other data analytics team members to improve the overall products and services used to serve constituents.

The expected salary range for the Business Systems Analyst is $65,000/annual - $75,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years of experience in programming (ideally SQL, VBA, C# & .Net), data analysis, system analysis, design and implementation.
  • 2 years of experience with data dashboard design and development.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel, Access and MS SQL.
  • Working knowledge of online data collection tools.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Tessitura and Qualtrics.
  • Exceptional analytical skills (ideally with a background in statistics). Experience providing data analysis in a fast-paced, quality-critical environment, preferably to both technical and non-technical audiences.
