Job Description
Why do we need you ?

The building science team is central to the organization and provides expertise to all the construction product businesses in the US and Canada. As a VIE, you will contribute to the expansion of Saint-Gobain's position in the markets associated with commercial construction in North America.

The main role

  • Apply building construction and design principles plus analytical, numerical, and experimental techniques to evaluate Saint-Gobain solutions in buildings and building assemblies.
  • Provide technical insight into various construction practices.
  • Utilize and apply principles of building science to customer-specific scenarios.
  • Support project goals and objectives.
  • Propose new objectives and gather agreement on new ideas from team members and stakeholders.
  • Clearly communicate technical issues, approaches, and results in technical reports and presentations.
  • Interact with building community and/or leading universities and/or construction technology laboratories as needed.

A plus for this role

Working with our Building Science team as a VIE, you will have a key role in our projects and be exposed to work with different departments. You will:

  • Create customized, tailored presentations and reports with actionable recommendations, findings, calculations, modeling, and/or simulations.
  • Conduct predictive modeling using professional simulation software to assess performance (acoustic, energy, hygrothermal, thermal, visual) for building systems and spaces.
  • Collaborate with internal and external resources to create and document new sensory demonstration platforms (see, hear, feel breathe) that educate customers to make informed decisions about the cause and effect of different material and system solutions.
  • Perform on site measurements, analyze data, visualize results, and communicate performance to internal and external stakeholders/

This is a 18-month mission, not extendable.

  • Master's degree in building science, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Ability to work in synergy with multiple groups/departments.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple topics at the same time.
  • Open-minded, attention to details and strong ability to take initiatives.
  • Knowledge in building materials/construction and software like WUFI Pro, TRNSYS, Sketchup Pro, Python, MATLAB or LABVIEW is a plus.
  • Proficiency in architectural drawing and 3D modeling software and visual scripting such as Rhino, Revit and Grasshopper is a plus.
  • Proficiency in energy and daylighting simulation software, such as EnergyPlus, Radiance, and ClimateStudio, Ladybug and Honeybee is a plus.
  • Fluent in English both spoken and written.

The Building Science Service Team provides insight and leads projects that focus on developing, demonstrating, and connecting innovative solutions to high performance buildings regarding indoor environmental quality (acoustic, indoor air, thermal and visual comfort), occupant experience, sustainability, and resiliency. The successful candidate will utilize his/her technical background in building construction and/or building technology to support sales enablement services which include modeling and analysis, as well as performance demonstration projects with cross-functional, matrix teams.
