Company OverviewWHAT IS CJA?We are a private, non-profit agency providing pretrial services in New York City’s criminal courts. We interview people who are arrested to determine their ties to the community, and make recommendations to the judge on whether defendants should be released without bail. We help defendants by contacting family members and friends who may be able to post bail. We notify released defendants of their court appearance dates, to reduce the likelihood of failure to appear in court. We collect data on the criminal justice system and perform research on a broad range of criminal justice program and policy issues.
