Join Our Mission

The Bilingual Transportation Specialist is responsible for driving and transporting youth, following transportation schedules, and completing assignments, paperwork and/or reporting as required.

Goal of our Sheltered Hearts Program

Our goal is to provide safe and timely reunification for a child and their family or suitable sponsor.

In partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services, the Sheltered Hearts Program provides family reunification and short-term shelter for children who have entered the United States without a guardian. Children reside in our family-style cottage located on our 2,000-acre campus while our bilingual staff provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving and transporting youth to and from appointments and other youth related services.
  • Maps out routes, itineraries, and destinations. Completes necessary paperwork and reports according to Agency policy and protocol.
  • Moves or carries cargo onto, into, off of, or out of the vehicle(s) being operated and moves or carries cargo from the vehicle to the delivery or storage point.
  • Starts, stops, steers and controls vehicles both on the grounds and over the road.
  • Conducts safety inspection on vehicles prior to operation, including but not limited to checking gauges, fluid levels and tire pressures.
  • Tends to routine maintenance of vehicles operated including detailing exterior and interior of vehicle
  • Pumps gas and potentially air to tires if needed while traveling. Ensures any vehicle damage, maintenance, accidents, etc. are reported according to Agency policy and protocol.
  • Serves as back up for other transportation positions.
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • This position will comply will all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those or ORR, ICE and the NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma and/or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of driving experience.
  • Varicella Vaccine required OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from a healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
  • MMR (Measles Mumps & Rubella vaccine required OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
  • Tdap (Tetanus-diptheria-pertussis) vaccine required.
  • Influenza vaccine required, one dose annually during flu season.
  • Covid: Being fully vaccinated means you have received a primary COVID vaccination series, plus one (1) booster COVID vaccination if you are eligible to be boosted. You are eligible to receive a booster COVID vaccination 4-5 months following your primary COVID vaccination series, depending on which type of COVID vaccine you received during your primary COVID vaccination series.
  • Physical (Medical Exam) required.
  • Must be able to work 9AM-5PM during new hire orientation to complete TCI(Therapeutic Crisis Intervention), CPR and Sanctuary training. Must maintain TCI and CPR certification.
  • Required to be 21 years or older.
  • Must have a current, valid driver's license per Agency guidelines. Travel required.
  • Able to work with a culturally and economically diverse population
  • Bilingual Required (English to Spanish)

Schedule

Tuesday to Saturday 6am - 2pm
