The Enterprise Marketing team provides strategy, analytics and marketing to serve our brands and to drive sustained growth in the organization. Sitting at the intersection of commerce and engagement, we help to provide value to consumers who celebrate occasions and showcase everyday moments. We use social media as a key channel to share engaging activations, work with compelling influencers and test new creative. The managing editor is responsible for content strategy and creation of content that feeds many of the company's diverse brands as we transform the company into an engagement brand. Creating engaging content requires excellent writing, clear thinking, a knack for capturing "voice" and good storytelling. To be successful in this role, you must have a proven ability to write, design and edit print and online employee communications with the goal of inspiring, informing and engaging our more than 10m customers around the world. Content must be clear, concise and accessible to people at all levels, from new hires to seasoned executives. The role requires a top-notch editor who can create and help drive the strategy for delivering content across multiple channels -- web, mobile, email, print and digital signage. The successful candidate will know how to identify subject matter experts, ask the right questions and explain complex ideas clearly and succinctly, as well as present content visually with a strong eye for design, art and photography. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Research audience insights: Better understand, by working with brand team, who our audience is and the specific ways we can engage them. Advocate thought leadership opportunities and examples to help train others around content marketing benefits and techniques. * Content planning: Plan, create, edit and publish engaging editorial content across the channels described above. Manage a team with editorial and content creation responsibilities and develop and execute our editorial strategy. Deliver new content daily and manage editorial calendars * Content strategy: Own and progress newly developed content strategy, inclusive of sourcing and internally pitching well developed content ideas that ladder into the company's brand strategy. Drive engagement strategy for the company content experiences, including look and feel and content elements * Editorial Skills: Be an excellent proofreader and writer with the ability to write in a fresh, modern, punchy voice with headlines that draw readers in. Become an expert in writing in the voice of others as we look to better amplify our subject matter experts into the outside world to further create credibility * Create word-class content: Develop and create ongoing content for all brand's that help consumers celebrate occasions and showcase everyday moments. Formulate pitches and abstracts to share this work and train the organization on the need to build multi-format, cross-channel companies. * Management skills: Foster relationships within the 1-800-Flowers brand, plus across the Enterprise, vendors, agencies and partners. Ability to collaborate with these groups to build world-class content and innovate across new channels. be a strong partner who can work cross-functionally with key individuals in each business function/LOB across the regions to drive content strategy with an eye toward "premiering" stories on Company Home with broad employee appeal. * Campaign focused: Our interactive marketing team manages paid media and media partnerships, but this role is expected to understand the basics of sponsored content and how to better leverage those relationships as part of our enterprise calendar. * Data-informed storytelling: Maintain consistent system of measurement and evaluation of all content on a monthly basis, and weekly when we are in high season. Use this data to drive new ideas and lesson the use of series and content that doesn't work. * Other projects: Work on special brand initiatives as requested by Executive Leadership team that aim to drive engagement. Other duties as assigned. * At least 7 years' experience in a communication and writing-focused communications role. * Superb writer, editor and proofreader. * Experience in visual communications, including graphics and video. * High level of experience with intranet design, management and content development. * Experience in developing, managing and writing for mobile apps is a plus. * Expertise in Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Photoshop, Wordpress. Additional software skills (Adobe, Photoshop,InDesign, HTML) a plus. * Ability to understand and use metrics and analytics to measure success and drive desired outcomes. * Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and collaboration skills. * Clear thinker, strong news judgment and strong team player who is comfortable with ambiguity and calm in chaos. * Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and able to manage multiple projects/assignments, stringent deadlines and changing priorities while delivering high quality products. * Superb multi-tasking and time management skills. (This position receives numerous emails from employees across the globe each day). * Strategic thinker with ability to see big picture and propose new ideas for ways of engaging audience. * Desire to learn and stay ahead of what is new and next in terms of content development and delivery. * Ability to work under pressure, prioritizing and juggling tasks to meet daily deadlines. * Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or public relations preferred. * Solid work ethic and ability to work early hours, after hours and weekends from time to time as needs arise.
