Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):  

Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field.  One (1) or more first authored peer-reviewed publication.

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

Research experience in the treatment of emerging contaminants such as poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Experience in the assessment of byproduct formation pathways. Experience working with analytical instruments to detect emerging contaminants (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, etc.).

 

Brief Description of Duties:  

The Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT) at Stony Brook University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to perform research in the water treatment of emerging contaminants (e.g. poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)) in drinking water. The qualified candidate should have an interest and previous research experience in water treatment (adsorption, advanced oxidation processes, etc.) and mass spectrometry. The successful candidate will design and implement bench and/or pilot-scale experiments to evaluate treatment techniques for removal of PFAS and other emerging contaminants. This collaborative project will require the successful candidate to work closely with researchers from National Laboratories, New York State Department of Health & Department of Environmental Conservation. The candidate must have the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.

 

The Postdoctoral Associate will work under the supervision of the Center's Associate Director. Specific tasks include:

 

  • Under the supervision of the Center's Associate Director, design and implementation of bench and/or pilot-scale experiments

  • Literature review and analysis of existing and emerging technologies for addressing targeted CECs

  • Sample collection, preparation, and analysis

  • Method development

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or presentation to report on the outcomes of the research.

  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
