Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume) 
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology or a related field in hand by December 31, 2020.  Experience working in a laboratory participating in research activities.  Specialized training and experience in operating laboratory equipment, carrying out test procedures, and using special methods for data collation and interpretation.

Preferred Qualifications:  Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology or related field. 

Brief Description of Duties: 

Besides mouse colony maintenance, the incumbent will independently carry out test procedures as well as collate and interpret data using molecular biology methods, within defined experimental protocols, in support of a research project or program for Dr. Markus Riessland in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. Research involves studying cellular (neuronal) senescence and brain aging, selective vulnerability, inflammaging and Parkinson's disease. The successful incumbent will assist the scientists in the laboratory (PhD students and postdocs) with the preparation of or during procedures such as cell culture (including stem cells), neuronal culture, plasmid purification, gene sequencing, protein analysis (e.g. western blot) or microscopy.

  • Caring for mice (including genotyping etc.)
  • Preparing slides (including perfusion and sectioning.)
  • Preparing cell media components (aliquoting growth factors etc.)
  • Cell Culture
  • Microscopy
  • Preparing media for bacteria
  • Glassware washing and sterilizing
  • Other duties or projects as assigned
Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
