Job Description

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated scientist in the field of RNA biology and disease to fill the position of Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Neurology and the Center for Motor Neuron Biology and Disease at Columbia University. The position will involve participation in NIH-funded projects aimed at understanding the mechanisms of neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental diseases caused by dysregulation of RNA metabolism. The research projects employ multidisciplinary approaches in the areas of genomics, RNA/protein biochemistry and neuroscience using mammalian cell lines, human stem cell-derived neurons, and mouse models. Applicants should have experience in the analysis of RNA regulation and RNA-protein interactions both in vitro and in vivo. The applicant will carry out experimental work on research projects established in liaison with the PI and to be performed either independently or in collaboration with postdoctoral research scientists and graduate students. Responsibilities include design and execution of experiments, data analysis as well as training of new lab personnel and assisting the PI with grant applications and scientific publications.


Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in the biological sciences and have strong expertise in biochemistry, molecular, and cellular biology.

Applicants must have effective communication and organization skills as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented, with excellent laboratory skills and a proven record of research accomplishments.

Time-management, multitasking and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced research program are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience with RNA binding proteins, human stem cells, mouse models, and/or viral gene delivery is an advantage.
