The Department of Neurology at Columbia University, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and the New York Presbyterian Hospital is actively recruiting a Division Chief for Child Neurology. The qualified Division Chief will hold the Sidney Carter Chair in Neurology and Pediatrics.
There are several active clinical programs: The inpatient-neurohospitalist service, The epilepsy monitoring unit, outpatient clinical services at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, ColumbiaDoctors in Tarrytown and the upper west side of Manhattan. We also have an active epilepsy surgery program, neuromuscular disorders, neurofibromatosis and neuro-oncology.
The Child Neurology Division is comprised of 18 faculty. The clinical activity within the division consists of a pediatric epilepsy service and pediatric neurology consult service at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York and a satellite pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit at NYP Westchester. The outpatient practices have approximately 20,000 visits annually and is spread across four outpatient locations in Manhattan and Westchester.
The department has four major affiliated research centers: The Coleen Giblin Laboratory focuses on Glut1 deficiency and mitochondrial disorders, The Center for Translational Research in Neurodevelopmental Disease focuses on model systems to investigate genetic disorders of infancy and childhood, The Weinberg Center for Cerebral Palsy and Related Disorders, The Gertrude H. Sergievsky Center focuses on neurological epidemiology from birth to old age, and The Motor Neuron Center focuses on spinal muscular atrophy, amyothrophic lateral sclerosis and related disorders.
The Division Chief will be responsible for providing administrative leadership within the Division that supports the co-equal missions at an academic medical center of patient care, education, and research. The new Division Chief will be expected to develop a mission and vision statement and to set goals for each mission annually that are synergistic with the Department's goals.
