Job Description

The VP, Stakeholder Engagement is part of Citi's Sustainability & ESG (SESG) team. The SESG team is responsible for leading the development and execution of Citi's Sustainable Progress Strategy, development of Citi's net zero plan, and management of ESG ratings and disclosure. The team partners with Citi's businesses, risk functions and operations teams to manage priority environmental, human rights and stakeholder initiatives.

The role will facilitate development of internal policies and external positions related to sustainability issues, with a focus on human rights, and will facilitate engagements and communications with key stakeholder groups and monitor Citi's reputation. The VP is responsible for working closely with other members of the SESG team, Risk Management, and the lines of business to evaluate emerging ESG risks and opportunities and assess potential policy and position enhancements. The role reports to the SESG Chief Administrative Officer who in turn reports to Citi's Chief Sustainability Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess stakeholder expectations and coordinate effective responses across sustainability issues, including but not limited to human rights
  • Track external inquiries and scorecards on specific issues, sectors or clients and coordinate approach to engagement and official responses, in coordination with colleagues in Global Public Affairs, Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM), Legal and the relevant businesses
  • Provide research and analysis on emerging issues and stakeholder inquiries and recommend courses of action, including client or sector due diligence and/or policy enhancements, in coordination with ESRM and other internal stakeholders and reputation risk advisory and governance mechanisms
  • Provide support to Citi's Reputational Risk Committee, including contributing to issue briefs
  • Provide support and qualitative analysis for the Reputation Risk Appetite Assessment on a quarterly basis, including evaluations of reputational risk key indicators
  • Contribute to ESG ratings content, reporting, stakeholder communication and investor engagement on sustainability issues
  • Analyze and facilitate responses to external stakeholder reports
  • Support engagement with external partnerships and initiatives on human rights and other sustainability issues, in coordination with business lines and ESRM
  • Coordinate updates to key external policy documents, including Citi's Statement on Human Rights and Environmental and Social Policy Framework
  • Develop presentation materials, talking points, benchmarking and analysis on sustainability, and human rights-related topics for engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to the Sustainability & ESG team's work on communications, strategy, research, analysis and data collection projects as needed
  • Represent Citi's sustainability and human rights approach in internal and external meetings and presentations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field, such as sustainability, business, public policy or business
  • 7-10 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability and/or human rights issues
  • Understanding of a range of ESG issues in addition to human rights, including climate and biodiversity, as they impact a wide range of businesses
  • Basic knowledge of banking and finance products and terminology
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to convey information clearly, accurately and succinctly (both written and verbally) and to craft succinct, high-impact presentations with strong attention to details
  • Highly developed emotional intelligence and ability to influence others, including comfort in engaging senior business leaders
  • Collaborative mindset, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work with a wide range of internal partners from across the bank
  • Exceptional work ethic, with the ability to multi-task in a high-performance professional environment
  • Flexibility and being a team player are a must
