Purpose of the Role:
As a National Lead / Senior Geotechnical Engineer in the Geoscience Mining, Minerals and Metals (MMM) team at Worley, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of our Geoscience Practice, particularly in the US national mining sector. You will lead a team of dynamic professionals, overseeing technical delivery and contributing to business development efforts. Your expertise will be essential in supporting our commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions while meeting the diverse needs of our clients in the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Growth:

  • Drive business development initiatives for the Geoscience - MMM sector across North America, focusing on the US national mining sector.
  • Expand and develop the Geotechnical MMM team in key hubs such as Arizona and Denver, while collaborating with colleagues and clients in Markham, Ontario, Calgary, and Vancouver, Canada.
  • Support the growth of Worley's Geoscience MMM business in Latin America.
  • Develop and implement geoscience strategies aligned with divisional and regional plans.
  • Win new business by leading bid teams, preparing proposals, and providing technical support during negotiations.
  • Provide industry and client intelligence reports, forecasting, and identify new opportunities.
  • Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering and geoscience professionals within Worley.
  • Travel as needed to support geotechnical - MMM projects throughout the USA, Canada, and potentially internationally.

Technical Oversight:

  • Oversee the technical competency and development of the geotechnical mining expertise.
  • Mentor and coach junior staff, identify career development opportunities, and ensure adequate staffing levels.
  • Align and drive the practice, managing resources to capitalize on opportunities across locations and regions.
  • Aggregate information to drive research, development, and business growth.
  • Provide geotechnical engineering expertise on mining projects, including tailings strategies, dam safety, infrastructure, site characterization, analysis, design, seismic assessment, and risk management.
  • Monitor project execution to ensure adherence to technical and quality standards.
  • Collaborate within Worley integrated delivery teams, including other engineering disciplines, environmental scientists, and project support staff.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the business.

Qualifications / Skill Set:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in civil and/or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration within Arizona, Colorado, or other relevant states.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in geotechnical engineering in mining.
  • Proven track record in business development, bid management, and proposal preparation.
  • Experience leading multi-discipline teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong client engagement and management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Business acumen including revenue generation and contract management.
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Working knowledge of project planning, cost management, and quality management systems.
