Job Title:Senior Scientist

Summary:Momentive is looking for a research Senior Scientist to join the Agriculture & Process Industries technology team. This scientist will lead product development programs primarily focusing on high performance antifoams.

Our extensive portfolio of antifoam agents, including our SAG, Silwet and ESCA brands, which help minimize foaming issues for a wide range of applications such as food & beverage, agriculture, textile, paper, metal working, and chemical processing.

The primary role will be to lead programs that improve existing core products, develop new technologies to meet customers' evolving needs, and advance the fundamental understanding of anti-foam behavior in different applications. The successful candidate will be a well-rounded Surface Scientist/Polymer Scientist with skills and knowledge in colloidal and surface science of polymer materials, especially as applied to foam control. This includes experience in evaluating, characterizing, and developing new products. This scientist will work with a variety of functions and global teams, including marketing, sales, applications development, procurement, quality, and production, and be actively involved in virtually every step in the lifecycle of our products, from conceptualization to commercialization.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Propose and design new products and platforms of strategic business significance. This includes understanding the underlying causes of customer unmet needs, analyzing problems from multiple points of view, and creating innovative solutions and concepts.

  • Lead, plan, and execute product development projects/platforms, from the definition of customer needs through assistance with scale-up and commercialization. Assess program needs and identify resources needed. Set appropriate targets and milestones. Provide technical mentoring to junior employees. Write project reports.

  • Improve and develop advanced characterization techniques and application methods to understand product performance. Investigate property-structure relationships, analyze product failure modes, and study process parameters. Distill high-level theoretical concepts into practical, useful product platforms, features, and innovations.

  • Acquire and maintain insights into technology trends for the development of advanced antifoam innovations. Leverage technical networks to collaborate across organizations and to create business opportunities.

  • Communicates effectively to influence stakeholders on new projects with high global impact. Drives communication at all levels of the business.

  • Support the process technology and quality teams to ensure successful product scale-up and robust quality control.

  • Collaborate with global product and application development teams as well as with marketing and business functions to ensure that projects are aligned globally and meet customer/market needs.

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the patent landscape of all the projects involved. Lead IP generation.

TRAVEL:

  • Domestic and international travel may be required based on the business needs (5-10%)

Walking, walking on irregular surfaces, and balancing will be required. Reaching,feeling, finger movement, grasping, hearing, sight, and the ability to speak clearly will berequired. Regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs. The ability to wearpersonal protective equipment and the ability to pass a fit test and wear a respirator isrequired for most positions.

Qualifications:

The following are required for the role

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, physical chemistry, polymer science, or chemical engineering with 5+ years of industrial experience, or M.S. with 10+ years of industrial experience

  • Demonstrated track record of new product development and creative independent research.

  • A deep expertise in colloidal and surface chemistry, foams, emulsions, dispersions, and surfactants.

  • Demonstrated understanding of structure-property relationships and the ability to design new molecular structures/materials based on performance needs.

  • Strong team player with the ability to lead teams successfully. Sufficient knowledge to guide others in laboratory research. Willing to coach and mentor others in program development upon gaining experience.

  • Proven problem-solving and project execution skills. Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a cross-functional environment.

  • Strong knowledge of material property testing and characterization.

  • Hands-on laboratory equipment setup and operation experience.

  • Basic statistics and data analysis knowledge (Design of Experiments).

  • Working knowledge of standard personal computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, etc.)

The following are preferred for this role

  • Expertise and experience in antifoam technology are strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of Silicone chemistry and technology

  • Working knowledge of formulations/applications that require the use of antifoam agents.

What We Offer:Base Pay Range: $125,000.00 - $182,600.00

The actual salary offered is determined by factors including but not limited to education, experience, skill sets, and geography. Additionally, this role is eligible for incentive or sales variable compensation payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company's incentive plans, the Company's financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.
