Job Description

The General Clerk will support the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in performing a variety of office/clerical functions, to support their Wetland Compliance and Erodible Land Assistance program, Conservation Easement and the Food Security Act. These functions include but are not limited to payment/invoice processing, record keeping, letter and document preparation, data entry and contracts administration. The clerk is not required to have specific program knowledge and will receive training on the use of program specific applications. 

Qualified candidates must possess:

  • Valid driving license.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet use.
  • Knowledge and experience in utilizing a variety of computer hardware and software applications, such as Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to use e-mail and internet browsers i.e., Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Edge.
  • Knowledge and experience in operating small office machines, such as calculators, fax machines, scanning devices, postage meters, and copy machines.
  • Knowledge and experience in general office procedures, such as preparing reports, spreadsheets, and filing. Familiarity with certified mail and return-receipt mail procedures.
  • Ability to follow prescribed workflow process.
  • Understanding and possessing the ability to enter data accurately.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Capability of working independently.
  • Basic telephone skills.

Although not required the following qualifications would be preferred:
  • Customer service experience
  • Database management
  • Knowledge of general agricultural and conservation programs
  • Mail Merge (Word)
