Job Description:

Bellarmine University has an opening for a part-time shuttle bus driver who will provide transit service to the campus community along fixed routes in a safe, courteous, and reliable manner within a daily assigned time schedule. The hours are evening hours from 5:00 p.m. till 10:30 p.m. either Monday through Friday evenings or Sunday through Thursday evenings. This position typically works from August through the first week of May.

In addition to driving the shuttle on scheduled routes and for special events, the driver will:

  • Assist boarding of passengers using wheelchairs or other mobility aids and properly secure wheelchairs and scooters;
  • Perform pre/post trip vehicle inspections daily for damage, equipment failures, and safety items to ensure the safe use of the equipment while performing assigned duties;
  • Be punctual in reporting to work and driving the routes due to the time sensitive nature of meeting the shuttle schedules;
  • Notify dispatch of deviations, overload, accidents, passenger incidents, medical/behavioral problems, or bus mechanical/electrical trouble;
  • Advise passengers of rules and regulations when necessary;
  • Perform clean-up service on the shuttle as necessary to provide a pleasant environment for riders


Requirements:

A High School diploma or the equivalent is required. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Also the applicant must pass a required Fleet Defense Alert Driver's test, making a score of 85 % or better.

Must be CPR Certified or become certified within the first 6 months of employment. CDL license preferred not required.


Additional Information:

The driver will be required to drive in inclement weather conditions. Must be able to sit for long periods of time as well as stand for periods of time.

May instruct others in methods of operating heavy vehicles and equipment. Employee may occasionally need to lift and transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
