Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master's and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
The Certificate in Nonprofit Management is designed for professionals to develop essential skills, the Certificate program provides education and training in:
  • Foundational knowledge of nonprofit organizational management.
  • Collaborative approaches to community challenges.
  • Leadership theories and application.
There are five specialized topics within the program:
  • NPM 010-Overview of Nonprofit Organizations
  • NPM 015-Overview of Resource Development
  • NPM 020-Human Resource Management
  • NPM 025-Management Communication Skills
  • NPM 030-Budgeting and Financial Management

Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Institute of Civic and Community Engagement, the adjunct instructor will:
  • Deliver classroom instruction in the areas of nonprofit organizational management.
  • Keep abreast of current research, emerging issues, and best practices in nonprofit innovation, service delivery, and governance; ensure that the syllabus and instruction reflect those emerging issues/best practices.
  • Create, review, or edit course syllabus, annually; prepare and deliver educational materials and activities
  • Respond to student inquiries and provide course support in person or virtually, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned
Education / Experience
Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university. Teaching experience preferred. Nonprofit experience required. Successful applicants will have a minimum of 3 years' leadership experience in the area of course study. Candidates will also possess strong civic leadership, community engagement, and a deep understanding of best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies.
Competencies / Skills
  • Knowledge of and professional experience with community engagement and cross-sectoral collaborations.
  • Experience with program management and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Comfort with public speaking and/or teaching; demonstrated experience with development and communication of educational content.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence and intercultural competence and the ability to work effectively in collaboration with those from different cultures.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
Supervision of Employees
None.
Work Environment
In-person daytime classroom teaching environment.
Equipment to be Used
Classroom teaching technology including PC Windows-based computer, audio-visual console, video projection unit, Zoom accessories.
Work Hours
The instructor will teach one course per calendar year. The instructor is expected to be in the classroom for seven class meetings and a total of 12-14 hours. Instructors are typically in the classroom from approximately 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Preparation of instructional materials such as textbook selection, syllabus creation, and class presentations/activities are to be completed by the instructor outside of classroom time.
