Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Embryologist I - **Obs/Gyn-IVF**.

In this role, the successful candidate Embryologist I is an entry level position. This position works under the direct supervision of Senior Embryologists, Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Director. This position is responsible for performing basic clinical laboratory techniques in the IVF Laboratory involving in vitro fertilization, gamete handling, insemination and laboratory quality control. Detail oriented data entry and functionality with laboratory software is required. This position includes holiday and weekend rotations. Team oriented workflow

Job Responsibilities:

    1. Study and review Embryology Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and become familiar with quality control, quality assurance, safety procedures and operating guidelines for performing laboratory services.
    2. Study and comply with OSHA requirements and HIPAA regulations and utilize universal precautions for bloodborne pathogens.
    3. Participate and develop proficiency in laboratory operations and laboratory services, including basic ART procedures and quality control, under the direct supervision of laboratory senior staff and management:
      1. laboratory cleaning and monitoring
      2. receipt and testing of media and supplies
      3. preparation and labeling of media and tissue culture materials and dishes
      4. equipment maintenance and quality control
      5. sperm preparation for ART
      6. sperm cryopreservation (if applicable) and thaw
      7. oocyte retrieval and preparation for culture and insemination
      8. conventional IVF (in vitro fertilization) insemination
      9. fertilization assessment
      10. embryo handling, culture, and grading
      11. embryo vitrification and warming
      12. laser assisted hatching
      13. handling of liquid nitrogen, cryopreserved specimens and maintenance and monitoring of cryo-storage tanks
      14. participation in cryopreserved specimen and fresh specimen discard with laboratory as necessary
      15. receipt and release of cryopreserved specimens as necessary
    4. Maintain records of training in each procedure.
    5. Maintain and ensure chain of custody for all specimens in the laboratory.
    6. Record and report laboratory monitoring, quality control, and patient results in the electronic medical record system and/or the appropriate written format, spreadsheets, databases, or laboratory software.
    7. Data entry to SART and NASS, if applicable.
    8. Communicate with patients and clinical staff as needed.
    9. Participate in laboratory proficiency testing programs.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Position Responsibilities: Provide a high level of patient care and service. Attend practice and department meetings. Learn and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, society meetings, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks. Document all continuing education activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Education: A Bachelors degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology, clinical or reproductive laboratory science from an accredited institution with one year of laboratory experience or demonstrated laboratory knowledge.
Experience: 0+ years.
Other: Excellent written and spoken communication skills with ability to interact appropriately with patients, physicians, nursing staff and co-workers. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs in weight for stocking and inventory responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Any experience in a medical, healthcare, or laboratory setting.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $55,595.27 - $64,660.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
