Job Description

The Division of Gastrointestinal and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

Individual will be responsible for management of clinical data pertaining to conditions of the pancreas treated operatively. Specific areas of focus include: 1) decision making for pancreatic cysts; 2) quality of life after pancreatic surgery; 3) management of endocrine and exocrine function after pancreatic surgery; 4) irreversible electroporation for pancreatic cancer; and, 5) red blood cell savage during pancreatic surgery.

Additional responsibilities include drafting IRB submissions, compliance with IRB requirements, patient-level data abstraction from electronic medical records and entry in to databases, determining patient eligibility for studies and coordinating specimen collection between surgeons and basic scientists, collaboration with residents and oversight of medical students working on related projects, and participation in regularly scheduled division research meetings, and presenting and publishing research findings.


MD

2-3 years general surgery residency training.

Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated critical thinking abilities. Interest in hepatopancreaticobiliary disease outcomes research. Experience with scientific writing. Data management experience, and familiarity with at least one common statistical software package (eg. SAS, SPSS, Stata, R).
