The role is part of the Traded Risk function within US Risk and Compliance. The purpose of the role is to provide assurance for the Traded Risk control framework and ensuring the control owner fully considers and consistently manages operational risk to the same optimum standard. Report on the adequacy of the internal control environment and on compliance with regulatory and Group requirements. Be a subject matter expert in risk management, provide advice and guidance on an effective internal control environment.

As our Vice President Traded Risk Control you will:

  • Provide subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and effective challenge in relation to Traded Risks to the Risk and Control Owners
  • Support setting the Risk Appetite in conjunction with risk owners and overseeing in risk appetite monitorin
  • Support global Traded Risk policies and minimum requirements, ensure policies are complied with regionally and across business lines
  • Support definition of the Risk and Control Library for Traded Risk, including minimum control standards and control assessmen
  • Provide challenge and oversight of Risk and Control Owners on inherent risk, residual risk, control effectiveness ratings, issues, actions, and event
  • Ensure effective reporting on the risk and control profile, including impacts of external environment changes, emerging risks and changes to the business strategy
  • Ensure that all procedures and best practices defined by Traded Risk are followed
  • Ensure compliance with operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards and policies and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $157,700 and $236,600.

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

Requirements

Youll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in finance, economics, or similar discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in operational risk, traded risk management, or an audit function at a major financial institution, preferably with experience in market, traded credit, and counterparty risk
  • Good understanding of vanilla and structured products traded within capital markets
  • Influencing and persuasive arguments
  • Stake holder management
  • Effective communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Commercial mind-set
  • Ability to present complex issues confidently, accurately, and concisely to all audiences using simple language
  • Drive and self-motivation - proactive and delivery focused to ensure individual tasks are completed on time and to the required levels of quality
  • Ability to successfully deliver multiple, wide-ranging priorities, often under stringent time pressures in a dynamic environment
  • Prioritization - good planning and process improvement skill
  • Familiarity with databases and programming languages such as Python is a plus, but not mandatory
