We are currently looking for a Summer Intern to join our growing team!


JOB SUMMARY

Prepare samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients and environmentals. Responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing.



ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare incoming samples for testing.
  • Actively participate in Quality Control tests on proficiency samples.
  • Ensure sample turnaround time goals as well as other key performance indicators are met or exceeded; this includes, but not limited to sample preparation for sample analysis, data review and reduction, and providing data interpretations and opinion.
  • Assist in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies; including documentation of temperatures and maintenance of equipment/instruments.
  • Provides routine care and maintenance for instruments. This includes washing glassware, refrigerators, and equipment.
  • Maintain the department equipment and work areas.
  • Receive and track incoming packages and prepare outgoing packages.
  • Verify and record calibration of the top load balance used to weigh samples.
  • Learn new techniques and technologies.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Biological Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Food Science majors.
  • Ideal candidate will be capable of working flexible or long hours due to special projects.
  • Excellent attention to detail, high-level organizational skills, and the ability to multitask.
  • Strong relevant quantitative skills


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer components
  • Potential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogens
  • Noise level varies from quiet to loud
  • Temperature varies from hot to cold
  • Interactive and fast-paced team oriented tasks
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
