Organization Overview:

The Manager will lead BNL's Training and Qualifications (TQ) team, reporting to the Learning and Development Manager, and is responsible for design and delivery of classroom and computer-based safety and compliance training. This individual will oversee a staff of instructors who are responsible for the analysis, design, development and implementation of safety and compliance training courses and programs as well as assuring that the Brookhaven Training and Qualifications Management System (BTMS, Brookhaven's Learning Management System) is performing effectively.

Job Description:

  • Develop and execute against a lab-wide training strategy for Training and Qualifications
  • Review and assess current safety and compliance training programs, regulatory drivers, and requirements.
  • Oversee a staff of instructors who are responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of safety and compliance training solutions, and programs as well as assuring that the Learning Management System is performing effectively.
  • Conduct observations of training instructors for revisions or implementation of instructor-led training courses. Provide real-time coaching for improved performance.
  • Create and revitalize training solutions that ensure high levels of competency and strategically align with the mission of the Laboratory.
  • Partner with management, Subject-Matter Experts, and other stakeholders to develop and/or revise blended solutions that may include classroom and web-based compliance training programs.
  • Serve as an onsite, and virtual, classroom instructor and facilitator.
  • Collaborate/partner with Learning and Development Manager for the identification, planning, and budgeting of all training initiatives and programs. This may include, but not limited to interpreting and cascading expectations of performance as outlined in regulatory documents, as well as leadership agenda items.
  • Collaborate with additional resource owners to plan and execute all aspects of safety and compliance training.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience providing subject matter expertise on training delivery and instructional design including a focus on compliance and/or worker health and safety training.

  • Hands on experience with classroom and web-based training design and delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience using a systematic approach (e.g., ADDIE) for training design and delivery.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and work collaboratively.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and focused on high-quality delivery of work products.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of e-learning software (e.g., Articulate, Storyline) and the application of Learning Management Systems
  • Experience in a scientific environment and /or working in a regulated training environment or within the DOE complex.
  • Experience in a nuclear environment or delivering against a nuclear training plan.
  • Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM) or similar certifications.

Brookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $121700 - $194250 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
