Job Description

Support and promote breastfeeding in the WIC clinic. Counsels pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers by telephone and in the WIC clinic at scheduled intervals determined by the Local Agency (LA). May teach prenatal and breastfeeding classes with approved lesson plan by BFPC Coordinator and/or organize mother support groups. Provides information and support for women in managing common maternal and infant breastfeeding problems that occur. Contacts Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Coordinator or LA lactation expert when a situation occurs that is out of her scope of practice or anytime guidance is needed. Respects each participant by keeping her information strictly confidential. Keeps accurate records of all contacts made with participants using the State's database. Attends and assists with prenatal classes and breastfeeding support groups.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be/have been a WIC participant who is/has breast fed for at least six months. (does not have to be currently breastfeeding)

  • Good Communication Skills

  • Ability to work with individuals
