Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Nurse - LPN

Seeking Licensed Practical Nurse to provide care to residents with varying levels of mental health disorders under the supervision of a registered nurse. Monitors treatment and administers medication as needed and teaches residents about the importance of taking medication. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse monitors and maintains the health and safety of all residents and provides medical intervention as needed. Experience working with mental health population a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:

New York State LPN license plus two (2) years of related experience in the mental health field.

Wales Avenue Residence provides safe and supportive housing to two vulnerable populations: chronically homeless adults who struggle with a serious mental illness and/or substance use issues, and young adults who suffer from a mental illness and lack a support system, have one or more behavioral health disorders, or have recently aged out of foster care and are at risk of being homeless. Nurse-LPN Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Perform assessment of residents and update Registered Nurse as needed for additional care.
  2. Dispense medication and document in medication administration (MAR).
  3. Provide hands on care to improve the health of residents.
  4. Maintain health records as required by funders and other organizations from which programs receives accreditation (CARF, DOC).
  5. Assist the Registered Nurse in conducting and implementing health related training for residents and staff.
  6. Assist with the coordination and implementation of health initiatives for residents.
