New York, NYAs an integral part of Conde Nast's Content Integrity Group (CIG), this role supports the copyediting and fact-checking function for Vanityfair.com and ensures the highest standards of editorial accuracy and consistency. The Digital Line Editor navigates a dynamic, fast-paced digital environment. They have a keen eye for maintaining editorial integrity in conjunction with assisting the Director of Copy and Research in managing the day-to-day responsibilities of an expert team of copy editor/researchers. This role will adapt to any changes in the workflows, company mandates, and team/department directives and priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Copyedits and fact-checks web content (columns, blog posts, long-form articles, slide shows, the homepage, section pages, display text, video text, newsletters)
Works closely with legal affairs department
Works closely with editors
Line edits and recasts text as needed
Reviews the print edition's articles when they're posted online, correcting errors and suggesting changes to web format to maintain the integrity of the content
Finds solutions to problems with presentation, context, and protocol of content to meet established editorial standards
Follows Universal Style Guide, in addition with other approved reference material
In the absence of the Director of Copy and Research, manages day-to-day operations of the team
Works with the Director of Copy and Research on workflow solutions and other team initiatives
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a constantly evolving media landscape
Takes on emerging responsibilities as necessary and pivots as the business requires
Required qualifications:
Digital-content editing experience with an interest in and knowledge of breaking news, celebrity culture, and politics
Fact-checking experience
Copyediting experience
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Experience working with a CMS
Experience using Slack or similar communication tool
Experience with an online publication or digital news organization
Comfortable in a fast-paced, often high-pressure environment
Swift thinker who can easily vacillate between projects and voices
Schedule flexibility
The expected base salary range for this position is from $63,000-$106,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
