Children's Aid (CA) is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to serve the children of New York City. Founded in 1853, Children's Aid serves New York's neediest children and their families at more than 45 locations in New York City's five boroughs and Westchester County.

Position Summary: High network reliability and performance levels are critical to ongoing CA operations. As an IT team member, the Network Administrator is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of the IT network. He/she works in collaboration with the IT team, various business and program areas, outside vendors and organizations The Network Administrator is responsible for:

  • Planning, design, build-out, and maintenance of the system/network infrastructure, operational enhancements, new technology, and performance/availability of a multi-site IT environment including the Disaster Recovery infrastructure.
  • Configuration, monitoring, and maintaining the integrity and security of the CA network.
  • Provide top-notch customer service and network services to all users across the organization.

Essential Duties:

Network Administration

  • Administers network server infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, update, secure, and monitor network server software and hardware systems.
  • Perform regular health checks and vulnerability management; maintain currency of software and firmware patches and updates on network server-based systems and infrastructure.
    • Implement, maintain, and manage remote support processes and procedures.
    • Create and keep current all network-related documentation.
    • Perform appropriate change control procedures concerning all network server-related systems changes and upgrades.
    • Adhere to all defined standards for naming, documentation, and security concerning our network server-related systems.
    • Recommend and implement new technology-based practices as required.

Network Management

  • Maintain and monitor network traffic
  • Monitor, log, and execute appropriate responses based on information from enterprise monitoring devices
  • Manage LAN, VLAN, Wi-Fi access
  • Manage telecom and ISP circuits
  • Maintain Network Documentation

Security

  • Ensure all security standards are implemented and maintained. Report violations.
  • Maintains Security and Access Controls, for domain, firewalls, switches, and all other network-related hardware and Storage Devices.
    • Regularly review traffic patterns and potential internal and external threats.
    • Understand and adhere to organizational policies for protecting the confidentiality of sensitive customer and internal information (HIPAA HITECH).
      • Participate in annual Fiscal and HIPAA security reviews
      • Participate in vulnerability and intrusion testing. Take corrective action if required.
      • In-person collaboration is an essential function of the job
      • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of proven experience as a network administrator working in a fast-paced team environment.
  • BS/BA Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • MCSE, CCNA.

Key Competencies:

  • Extensive experience with building, configuring, and managing Windows Servers, Web Servers (IIS), MS SQL Clustering, and monitoring systems.
    • Experience with Active Directory design and administration.
    • Experience with VMware ESX server, & VMware Virtual Center, HP 3PAR in a mission-critical environment.
    • Extensive TCP/IP design and analysis experience, strong knowledge of LAN, VLAN, and Wi-Fi. DNS, DHCP, SSL, VPNs, and remote monitoring/administration of servers.
      • Extensive knowledge of Cisco Firewalls, Switches, Routers, IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems) Network Access Control.
      • Experience configuring, managing, and maintaining storage arrays, clusters, and Management Controllers.
      • Experience supporting VoIP architecture.
      • Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
      • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
      • Ability to express technical concepts effectively both verbally and in writing.
      • Ability to work well with people of varying degrees of technical expertise.
      • Desire to grow and capability to learn.
      • Solid communication and negotiation skills with 3rd party vendors, IT staff, and business areas.
