Duties

WHAT IS THE WAGE AND INVESTMENT (W&I) DIVISION?

Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas: Wage and Investment Service Center- Accounts Management

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.

  • Responds to taxpayer's inquiries regarding preparation of a variety of tax returns, related schedules, and other documentation.
  • Resolves account inquiries; advises taxpayers of enforcement actions; and manages sensitive case problems designated as requiring special case handling.
  • Analyzes and resolves tax processing problems.
  • Adjusts taxpayer accounts; prepares and issues manual refunds; performs multiple credit transfers; and computes tax, penalty, and interest (including restricted interest).
  • Secures payment of delinquent taxes and filing of delinquent returns. Recommends lien and/or levy action, including supporting information for release.
  • May serve as a technical advisor, OJT coach, classroom instructor, or reviewer; provides technical assistance on systemic problems and inconsistencies in IRMs.
This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-07, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-07 in as little as two years.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These are full-time seasonal positions. The initial season is 6-8 months and can be extended.

Tour of Duty: Shifts vary by location as indicated in the vacancy by location breakout. There is not a guarantee you will be selected for the tour of duty you prefer. See announcement verbiage for availability by location. Training may be conducted during a Tour of Duty (TOD) other than the one you were selected for. You will return to your permanent TOD once training is complete.

Post of Duty: Training may be conducted in a designated location other than the assigned POD located in the job offer until training is complete.
May be eligible for telework based on IRS policy. Must meet eligibility requirements.
While this job is telework eligible, you will be required to report to your assigned post of duty (POD) at least two (2) days per pay period. Employees are required to be within a 200-mile radius of their assigned POD while in a telework status. Telework eligibility does not guarantee telework; employees must meet and sustain IRS telework eligibility requirements and supervisor's approval to participate in the IRS Telework Program. As a reminder, if you are selected for a position, you are responsible for reporting to your designated POD (location) on the negotiated start date or as directed by management. As another reminder, depending on the location you are selected for, you may be required to report to the office every day throughout the duration of training, which could be up to 10 weeks.

278 vacancies for W&I Accounts Management- Tours of Duty TODs vary by location and will be assigned upon selection. Day Shift hours are between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and Swing Shift hours are between 2:00 PM and 2:00 AM.

Requirements Conditions of Employment

  • Telework Eligible Positions: Telework eligible positions do not guarantee telework.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience includes Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of this position. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience include experience performing a variety of miscellaneous tasks involving researching and processing financial documents, reviewing information and determining corrective action on accounts, researching for missing/unclear accounting information and reviewing financial documents submitted for completeness.

EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

  • A recruitment incentive has been authorized for eligible, highly qualified applicants. The incentive will be $2,000 and will require a two-year service agreement. The service agreement details will be provided to new employees prior to entrance on duty. This monetary incentive will be disbursed as outlined in the service agreement.
  • In the event that a building is closed due to rent management, new hires may be placed in a local commuting location.
  • Season length is from 6-8 months. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement.
