Job Description:

The Part-Time Laboratory Technician (Technologist C) provides technical related support for scientific education, research and outreach in the Science and Math department. Responsibilities will include stockroom management, maintenance of equipment and set up of demonstrations. Duties will include establishing and managing a digital database of chemicals and related lab materials, maintenance of electronic lab equipment and set up of class demonstrations for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Material and Color Sciences.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Chemical safety knowledge and adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Maintain ordering chemical supplies for departmental teaching and research projects.
  • Manage and update the chemical/laboratory database.
  • Serve as a primary safety contact for the department.
  • Management of digital databases for chemicals, equipment and instruments.
  • Prepare class demonstrations for biology, chemistry, physics, material and color science.
  • Partner with faculty to facilitate hands-on laboratory opportunities for students associated with classwork and research.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in the sciences required, graduate level education preferred.
  • C14 Certificate within 60 days.
  • 1-3 years of appropriate experience with materials characterization and the laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of appropriate laboratory experience.
  • Prior work as laboratory technician or chemical safety officer.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of instrumentation for spectroscopy and microscopy (including Scanning Electron microscopy, UV-Vis and IR spectroscopy).
  • Knowledge of the history, theories, methods, and applications of the physical, biological and chemical sciences.
  • Performing routine troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Setting up a laboratory for classroom and research needs.
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Computer proficiency is MS/Google Suite applications.
  • Ability to prioritize safety and time needs in the laboratory.


Additional Information:

Salary

Salary Range: $34.81- $37.30 per hour

The dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Rate: $34.81- $37.30 per hour with step increments per Salary Schedule 91, after 18 months of service and annually thereafter.

Days/Hours: M-F, 25 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
