About the Role:

The Lean Manufacturing Engineer applies process definition, improvement and design methodologies to identify, analyze and improve business processes, in order to improve quality, reduce costs, increase efficiencies/productivity, and increase customer satisfaction, Typically requires advanced knowledge obtained through higher education and work experience.

As a Lean Manufacturing Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to identify strategic opportunities and lead improvement projects in areas including Electrode, Potrooms, and Cast House at Massena Operations. Your focus will be on driving each area to its target state based on the laid out yearly plan, while also collaborating with all teams to drive key initiatives for continuous improvement.

Major Deliverables:

  • Utilize Lean/Continuous Improvement (CI) tools to minimize sources of downtime and scrap

  • Drive change management among peers, supervisors, and shop floor employees

  • Analyze current data and processes to evaluate both short-term and long-term improvement opportunities

  • Execute improvement projects using the DMAIC project management approach

  • Support the implementation of the continuous improvement plan (also known as Alcoa Business System or ABS)

  • Develop process flow and value stream maps for the key processes

  • Establish inventory targets and strategy based on the product mix and customer orders

  • Coach all members of the cast house on daily management tools, including shift change between supervisors, toolbox meetings for communicating daily job assignments, and the cast house department daily management meeting (DMS)

  • Conduct problem-solving sessions for key issues with team members and build action plans

  • Execute projects that directly contribute to the cost-saving targets of Electrode, Potrooms, and Cast House

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering & Management or any Engineering field

  • 0-3 years of work experience in an industrial setting

  • knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma exposure is preferred

  • Above-average computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office software

  • Ability to challenge, communicate, influence, and collaborate with key stakeholders

  • High energy, detail-oriented, with the ability to work in a systematic, structured, and efficient manner

  • Positive, influential, and motivated to achieve results

  • Strong problem-solving, team building, planning, and decision-making skills

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Base salary: $78,000 - $107,500 USD annually

Total rewards packages listed, including base salary and bonus eligibility, applies to US based applicants only. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on a range of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, and competencies in conjunction with multiple components of the Employee Total Rewards Package. Alcoa reserves the right to change plans at its discretion.
