Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Mental Health Specialist/Counselor

The Mental Health Specialist/Counselor is responsible for the overall implementation of the individual treatment plan for our clients in accordance with Volunteers of America policies and procedures, program models, funding source standards, and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires a Master's degree with LMSW or LMHC and two years relevant experience with at least 2 years of supervisory experience or relevant experience in the field.

Mental Health Specialist Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Lead client treatment and individual service plans from intake through discharge in accordance with the program regulations.
  2. Clinical team: supervise case manager and other assigned staff.
  3. Maintains contact with community support groups and provides professional expertise as required. Develop program and community resources and provide training and reference materials for staff. Manage sharing sessions for peer skill development and resource sharing.
  4. Ensure the provision of quality services, the protection of integrity of adopted models, use of available resources efficiently and achievement of outcome goals.
  5. Maintain program record keeping, data collection and evaluation to provide for continuous improvement of case management services and prepares clinical and progress notes.
  6. Monitor funder and agency outcomes and targets.
  7. Provide case management services to assigned clients.
  8. Provide on call crisis intervention support.
