Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Museum's IT department is seeking a capable and independent Senior Support Specialist, who will be an integral part of Technical Service Center, responsible for supporting, configuring, deploying and monitoring Museum users' computers and systems. Applicants should demonstrate great communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team and to collaborate with teams throughout the Museum.

Job duties include:
  • Provide rapid and comprehensive onsite and remote technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, points of sale and other software and hardware.
  • Respond promptly to customer inquiries. Effectively diagnose and troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues, collaborating across teams to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support video conferencing and virtual events, performing seamless setup, troubleshooting and technical assistance.
  • Contribute to automation efforts by creating scripts and process tools for tasks like device staging, app distribution, capturing device information, troubleshooting and other Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) activities.
  • Collaborate with partners to successfully implement and effectuate approved IT upgrades, as well as new software/hardware deployments.
  • Ensure alignment with department schedules, coordinate user training, track progress and conduct post-deployment follow-ups to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct onboarding of new users.
  • Maintain a schedule that includes Saturdays and some holidays, as well as availability for after-hours system upgrades and emergencies.

The expected salary range for the Senior Support Specialist is $60,000/annual - $70,000/annual. This position is overtime-eligible and the AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience as a Technical Support Specialist or similar role.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Office 365 and MacOS and experience with mobile device management (MDM) (e.g., Jamf, Intune) to manage devices. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
