The Manager, Structural Engineering participates in a team
environment consisting of engineers and designers to produce
construction documents for building and facility systems.
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
- Attracts, retains and develops premier talent through
recruiting, mentoring, training and other employee development
activities
- Frequently participates in project meetings, including
report-out on project progress, performance risks, budget
status, coordination issues, and staffing requirements
- Reports out during recurring Manager meetings, the status
of all projects and proposals supported by their team to
identify technical challenges, and problems or risks. Holds
weekly project discipline leads meetings.
- Maintains primary accountability for all structural
deliverables produced by their team
- Mentors Interns and junior members of project teams
- Ensures staff forecasting is current on a weekly basis for
the discipline, as entered in the Manpower Management System
(MMS). Helps in adjustment of resource additions / reductions
within the discipline
- Be familiar with all local discipline projects in
sufficient detail to know schedule, resource requirements,
deliverable dates, etc. so staff can be allocated as needed to
accomplish a smooth product flow
- When necessary, employ the use of personal structural
engineering capabilities related to programming, planning,
design and project management on specific project assignments
- Plans and directs the coordinated activities of a design
department. Coordinates with Project Leadership staff to plan
and schedule discipline deliverables and activities including
man-hour estimation, assigning personnel, and supervision of
discipline personnel on the Projects
- Supports project on-site execution and make decisions to
support projects and act as technical consultant
- Develops manpower and labor cost requirements for projects
and monitors them to aid in evaluating project schedule and
budget
- Provides specialized technical input to studies and design
for staff's specific area of expertise
- Develops study and design procedures to facilitate
high-quality cost-effective work by discipline team
- Works closely with the project team and other disciplines
as well as other design offices
- Coordinates with disciplines in the preparation and
development of the deliverables and ensuring those other
disciplines' inputs are incorporated
- Other duties as assigned

- 10+ years of experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE) with
Structural emphasis required
- Energetic and self-motivated
- Ability to mentor and train junior staff
- Effective mentor for junior staff
- Time management skills, strong work ethic and attention to
detail
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Must be a strong team player with an ability to build
effective working relationships with individuals, department
leads, and client representatives
- Works to build and maintain positive and productive working
relationships both internal and external
- Provides input to the development of engineering budget and
schedule to meet requirements
- Thorough knowledge of codes and common industry standards
related to the design of industrial and manufacturing
facilities and systems
- Ability to manage 5+ staff
- Professional Engineer (PE) License or Structural
Engineering (SE) License preferred
- Nation Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying
(NCEES) Record preferred
