Description

The School of Nursing at Stony Brook University invites/seeks applications for one full-time, academic year clinical faculty position to teach in the Undergraduate program. Psychiatric, mental health, or population health experience is required to enhance curricular concepts across four spheres of care (prevention/promotion of health and well-being, chronic illness care, critical/trauma care and hospice/palliative care).

As a Clinical Instructor/Assistant Professor/Associate Professor, you are expected to contribute to the educational, research, clinical and community service mission of the School of Nursing. The School of Nursing clinical faculty are leaders in the implementation of innovative student-centered learning strategies for the development of strong clinical reasoning skills in graduates. Candidates who excel in the delivery of online and hybrid teaching formats are strongly encouraged to apply.

All candidates should be prepared to pursue the Scholarship of Teaching in the development of critically reflective knowledge about teaching and learning. Such an approach emphasizes the development, testing, and dissemination of advances in both pedagogy and andragogy. Candidates at the Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor level are also expected to contribute to the tripartite mission of a major research intensive university by contributing to the research and/or practice/service mission of the university. This position may provide/allow options to continue to engage in clinical practice opportunities.

All candidates should be prepared to mentor students as future nurse leaders, be committed to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion, and foster collaborative interdisciplinary learning experiences that expand student understanding of patient-centered care.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid NY State Professional Nurse License
  • Recent Psychiatric, Mental Health, or Population Health Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) - Earned or In Progress
  • Upper Division Teaching Experience

Non-Tenure track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Nursing (School of Nursing's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).
