Job Description

Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time Staff Associate I to join the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center (ADARC) in the Yamashita Laboratory. Research in our laboratory focuses on the molecular basis of HIV-1 replication. Seeking highly motivated candidates interested in a career in medicine and/or scientific research. The incumbent will report to the Principal Investigator (PI).

Responsibilities:

  • Assist post-doctoral associates and PI in laboratories.
  • Apply scientific research methods to help design experiments.
  • Perform virology and molecular biology assays.
  • Collect, organize, and assist in analyzing experimental data; utilize statistical software to draw meaningful conclusions and generate reports.
  • Perform basic bioinformatics tasks.
  • Process blood specimens.
  • Maintain the integrity of the laboratory database.
  • Oversee the integrity of the equipment.
  • Collaborate with the overall function of the laboratory and its workflow.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related research field or its equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of professional work experience required.

Proficient in molecular biology, strong grasp of virology, competence in tissue culture techniques, basic statistical analysis skills, familiarity with bioinformatics, knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, excellent data management and analysis abilities.

Preferred Qualifications: Meticulous, attention to detail, and focus on accuracy; well organized and good time management skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; four years of related experience (preferred).
