Cornell University's Statler Hotel is searching for our next Taverna Banfi Assistant Restaurant Manager. The Assistant Restaurant Manager Opportunity:

The Assistant Restaurant Manager is a member of the Statler Hotel Management Team and reports directly to the Department Manager of Taverna Banfi Restaurant. As a leader of the department, you facilitate the vision and inspiration for our team members to approach each meal period as special and unique as we prepare, flawlessly execute, and deliver an experience that will give our guests something they will want to brag about. Primary responsibilities will include assisting with supervising daily operations, human resource management, financial management, facility management, beverage inventory management, and supporting School of Hotel Administration (SHA) courses aligned with restaurant operations.


In our spirit of developing our students, this position provides key mentoring support for participants in the and the Cornell Hospitality Internship Program. The Assistant Manager is a part of the Statler Hotel's Leadership Team and has the opportunity to initiate and lead projects as well as participate in management meetings serving on committees in the Hotel, School, and University.

Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates who have the right combination of college education, food & beverage management experience and mastery of the field of restaurant management to be an effective, inspirational leader.

  • Associates Degree in a hospitality or business-related field with at least 2-4 years hotel/restaurant supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management strongly preferred.
  • Highly motivated, dynamic individual with a professional demeanor and superior customer service skills, indicative of a AAA rated Four Diamond hotel.
  • Training skills - Must have the ability to assess skill level of students and modify training as needed.
  • Strong mentoring skills - Must have the ability to mentor students to act/think like managers through role modeling, supervision and feedback.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create, with course instructors and hotel management, a dynamic and experiential learning environment for students.
  • Basic computer skills, including: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work on feet for extended periods, lift and carry plates of food across dining room.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Culinary training and/or experience is strongly preferred in addition to front of house service experience.
