The anticipated salary range for this role is between $125,000 and $176,000. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Leasing and Finance Division is hiring a Credit Portfolio Risk, Vice President to work out of the NYC office. This role is directly responsible for oversight of credit and portfolio-related activities, including credit applications, credit administration and covenant compliance, compliance and know your customer activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and direction to LF colleagues to assure policies, procedures and processes are being met.
  • Discussion of day-to-day transactional issues as well as oversight and guidance in the preparation of all credit applications for both new transactions and monitoring of existing customers in conjunction with policies and procedures. From time-to-time may need to provide hands on application preparation.
  • Continuous monitoring of obligors for covenant compliance, adverse developments (market or customer) which may impact customers' credit profile. Provide appropriate alerts within LF as required to keep all information of emerging events. From time-to-time may need to provide hands on application preparation.
  • Preparation of KYC Periodic reviews.
  • Initiate and participate, where appropriate, in Leasing & Finance monthly Business Meetingsto discuss upcoming transactions, significant events which may impact the business and keep all colleagues up-to-date on various SMBC compliance and/or regulatory issues.
  • Liaise with various SMBC-related departments to assure linkage between LF processes and protocols and those required by SMBC for use by various regulators.
  • Spearhead various audit and regulatory requests for information and/or reports. Final oversight that all information provided in responseto these requests is accurate and complete as related to the request.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 10+ years of comparable or relevant experience.
  • Ability to quickly understand various complex transaction structures in order to provide guidance and direction as required to properly address inherent risks so that the risks are mitigated and the transaction can proceed within the risk parameters of Leasing & Finance.
  • Strong documentation knowledge along with negotiation skills to recognize potential impacts and risks which may affect the management of the transaction.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to clearly articulate concepts and critical points and understand and assimilate another's perspective.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of an organization, whether internal or external.
  • Ability to develop independent, well thought out conclusions and recommendations to present to various groups such that LF continues to maintain its ability to successfully operate while others obtain information to satisfy theirrequirements.
