Job Summary:

The main focus of this position is to diagnose complex, difficult, longterm problem jobs and develop preventative steps necessary to avoid recurrence of the problem(s) in accordance with Company quality standards. The Quality Manufacturing Inspector must have problem solving skills and a unique ability to assess process risk due to variations in set-up, tools used, ambiguous instructions, measuring equipment limitations, human factors, and sub-optimum manufacturing methods.

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Manufacturing Audit, conduct employee audits providing a measurement of the Company's ability to supply adequate training, work instructions and tools to the employee, and to measure the employee's acceptance of their responsibility to measure and accept their own work. Provide assistance to Engineering support groups, Quality Control SPC Technicians, Supervisors, Machinists, and Operators relative to inspection and processing problems. Support the use of Statistical tools in measurement and problem-solving activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Auditing of the Machine Shop, SubAssembly and Special Process Areas and provide technical support to shop production personnel.

  • Performs a wide variety of Quality Control tasks including the Proveout support for cell manufacture and auditing of machine shop, subassembly and special process areas. These tasks include dimensional inspection of piece parts, witnessing compliance to written instructions and procedures as well as verification of special process parameters.

  • Serves on the Preliminary Review Board for non-conforming conforming hardware and corrective action effort through appropriate personnel.
  • Audit function- Observes the activities of certified operators and machinists and sample inspects or verifies their output to ensure that piece parts or assemblies are to specifications, that work instructions and engineering procedures are being adhered to and gaging requirements and techniques are appropriate for the operation.

  • Inspection function - Uses a wide variety of gages and sophisticated measuring equipment to inspect precision machined parts for conformance to blueprint. Equipment including CMM, Form Measurement Machine, Vision System, Nikon Nexiv, and more.

  • Provides technical assistance relative to blueprint interpretation inspection techniques and gage application and assists in the training of personnel.

  • This position is performed with a minimum of supervision. The incumbent is free to proceed on his own in the majority of cases.

  • A high level of self-motivation and a thorough knowledge of the operation and application of gaging equipment, as well as an understanding of the special processes and their procedures and machine shop and subassembly workmanship standards is required.

  • Familiar with all the Quality Control requirements imposed upon the manufacturing and subassembly areas.

  • Communicate and articulate areas requiring improvements.

Basic Qualifications:

* Twoyear Associates degree or equivalent

AND

* 5 years' experience in the operation of precision machines where a variety of inspection techniques and gaging is required.

* (3 years of Functional Quality experience may be used in lieu of 5 years shop experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • use hand measuring instruments to inspect piece parts
  • create and run basic CMM programs to inspect part features
  • Operate the CMM to run proven programs
  • Diagnose issues and help with CMM program prove-outs.
  • Articulate Non-conformances using TIPQA software
  • Use basic PC/Windows software (i.e., EXCEL, WORD, etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, Engineering and Management.
  • Understand the use of Calypso software applications to operate the Zeiss CMM.
  • Use the Nikon Nexiv vision measuring system to inspect parts.

This position requires access to United States Export Controlled information.
