Job Description

Job Summary:

This is a unique opportunity for a mission-oriented business process improvement professional who wants to leverage their nonprofit expertise to support complex organizations (domestically & internationally) and grow a service offering within of the Industry Specialty Services practice. The Director will be an analytical and strategic operational leader, focused on driving business transformation and operational excellence across Nonprofits and Grantmakers. This position will drive standardized deployment of operational processes, tools and procedures to reduce process variations resulting in improved effectiveness and efficiency. This individual will display a high-level of critical thinking and analysis, bringing recommendations and delivering results for high-impact, complex, and/or cross-department challenges.

The Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory team is a growth-oriented management consulting team dedicated to building the capacity of the nonprofit sector. We partner with our nonprofit and philanthropic clients to help them attain operational excellence, ensure financial sustainability, and effectively achieve their desired impact. Our collaborative approach includes client input and involvement at each stage of an engagement.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities vary based on engagements and client needs and require an independent and multi-talented professional with the ability to start and manage complex client-facing and internal initiatives, bringing a consulting mindset.

Client Service

  • Leads, oversees, and delivers complex client engagements that incorporate multiple or new practice areas
  • Analyzes current processes, systems, and procedures, conducts gap assessments, identifies areas of improvement, and makes recommendations to ensure best practices
  • Reviews current operational structures (Finance, HR, Business Development etc), identifying potential areas of risk and makes recommendations that ensure efficient and effective management of resources
  • Utilizes problem solving skills and a process improvement framework t to define creative solutions to complex business challenges
  • Supports organizations going through change, deploying coaching and change management strategies
  • Supports leadership teams and Boards of Directors in making organizational decisions including presenting analysis and findings and effectively communicating complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Provides thought-leadership, direction and prioritization of services and operational enhancements to drive client experience, operational efficiencies, and organizational transformation efforts

Practice and Service Development

  • Actively participates in the development of business process improvement services, including monthly meetings and other areas of service development
  • Identifies and implements ways to make engagements more efficient and impactful
  • Maintains ongoing awareness of market conditions and trends to ensure proactive development of solutions ahead of need
  • Develops talent pipeline and implements sourcing strategies
  • Develops and leads strategic initiatives for practice, measures outcomes and pivots where appropriate
  • Manages successful implementation of innovation and change management in the practice

Relationship Management and Business Development

  • Builds strategic alliances and works collaboratively to provide multidisciplinary solutions to complex problems
  • Manages business development activities, such as project scoping, pricing, proposal development, and closing for new and existing clients
  • Develops and maintains current and potential/new client relationships, including relationships with nonprofits, foundations, local government, collaborative partner organizations, and/or direct service providers

Developing Others

  • Manages and coaches consultants on client engagements, especially in the areas of project management and quality assurance
  • Supervises consultants that may work on a range of engagements
  • Leads effective team meetings; coaches team members on career and professional development goals
  • Takes responsibility for project assignments for those they supervise

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, required
  • MBA or MPA, preferred

Experience:

  • Fifteen (15) or more years of experience either working with nonprofits or providing consulting services to the sector, required
  • Five (5) or more years prior supervisory/management experience, required
  • Experience in business transformation (people, process, and technology improvements), management consulting, and a continuous improvement mindset, required
  • Experience in defining a strategic vision, then planning and carrying out complex, large-scale initiatives with large complex national or international nonprofit organizations, required

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Business process improvement certification such as Lean or Six Sigma, preferred

Software:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, required

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Knowledge of change management principles

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

NYC/ Long Island/Westchester Range: $150,000 - $190,000
