Job Description

Fleet Services seeks a skilled Blacksmith with Automotive or Truck experience. Main tasks will include but not limited to:

Repair of iron parts of trucks, automobiles, carts, sweepers, enclosures and other equipment.
Forge and shapes manually or by power hammer, angle irons, bridle irons, tools, automobile parts or other similar pieces of equipment.
Forge welds iron components.
Placing and heating pieces to be worked on
Wielding a sledge or ball peen hammer and handles tongs.
Looking after tools such as tongs, hammers, etc.
Is responsible for and directs the work of Blacksmith's Helpers.
Keeps records and makes reports

35 hours/Monday-Friday

Minimum Qualifications

1. Five years of full-time experience as a blacksmith acquired within the last fifteen years; or

2. Not less than two and one-half years of such experience acquired within the last ten years plus sufficient full-time experience as a blacksmith's helper or apprentice, or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school, to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of blacksmith's helper or apprentice experience or approved trade or vocational high school; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2".

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
