Job SummarySam Schwartz is seeking a candidate to support the growth of the transportation planning practice, with a particular focus on one or more of the following practice areas: Vision Zero and transportation safety; Complete Streets; and Comprehensive Planning. They will serve as an internal and external lead for our safety practice area, helping to build these practice areas within the company alongside peers with similar expertise to grow Sam Schwartz's influence and market share of that practice area. They will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of consultants (planning, transportation engineering, data analytics, civil engineering, etc.) in the NY office to lead and advise on a wide variety of planning, policy, design, and stakeholder engagement activities.Ideal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute to and provide QA/QC review of various work products; they will be client-facing and articulate, with the ability to communicate persuasively and develop positive team dynamics; and they will have demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including the ability to understand and anticipate bigger-picture client and business needs while successfully managing day-to-day project demands. The ideal candidate should also possess knowledge of federal infrastructure laws, funding, and policies, as well as fundamental principles of transportation equity and environmental justice.
Responsibilities will include, at minimum, serving as one of the firm's internal technical lead / knowledge lead on safety, Vision Zero, and Complete Streets; serving as a project manager leading complex projects and project tasks; leading and supporting project proposals; and supporting industry involvement and thought leadership.Responsibilities & Qualifications

- Has existing strong client + partner relationships
- Involvement in relevant national organizations (NACTO, APA, TRB, or others as relevant)
- Ability to envision opportunities for growth and implement an action plan
- Ability to lead, motivate and mentor staff
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee strategic and citywide transportation planning projects, managing project budgets and schedules
- Build tools, procedures, or analyses that set our practice apart from competitors and ensure consistency of products internally
- Provide staff mentorship to team, including sharing technical expertise, professional development advice and helping to guide staff growth
- Assist with workload planning, identifying gaps in staffing, and lead recruiting efforts to fill gaps
- Potential to manage and supervise an inter-office team of staff (4-6 staff), ensuring adequate capabilities + capacity and anticipating succession planning needs
- Foster and maintain strong client relationships
- Represent the firm through thought leadership at conferences, professional organizations, and through social media
- Lead business development activities (preparing proposal responses, pursuing intelligence activities) nationwide
- Contribute to the business development strategy for specific practice areas, the national planning practice, and the regional market
- Contribute to strategic planning for the national planning practice
- Occasional travel to client sites is required
Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- 8+ years of experience in the transportation industry, with a focus on safety practices, policy, data analysis, and roadway design

TYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $117,000- $140,000 annually for this position and local market.
