Description

The Student Mentor serves as a mentor to community college/transfer students participating in the inaugural PRIME-LA Institute yearlong mentorship and summer program. They will support programming efforts by effectively mentoring and engaging participants through various communication channels, including online and in-person contact, phone calls, and emails. They will adhere to guidelines and office protocols established by the PRIME-LA Senior Coordinator and UIM-COE Project Director to effectively support a variety of situations and assist in achieving the goals outlined in the PRIME-LA Institute manual. Final candidate selection is contingent upon the approval of the medical school advisor or PRIME-LA Director.


Salary Range: $17.50 - $38.00 Hourly

Qualifications

All Required:

Must be a current DGSOM UCLA-PRIME student.

Knowledge of working with diverse student populations.

Demonstrate public speaking skills sufficient to successfully relate administrative and educational program information to faculty, staff, and students.

Ability to make sound independent judgment and exercise strong decision-making and problem solving skills.

Detailed oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.

Ability to receive and manage confidential information appropriately.

Ability to direct and coordinate a number of activities simultaneously in a dynamic, academic supportive environment.

Maintains satisfactory progress in medical school.

Failure to maintain satisfactory progress may result in termination of employment.
