The SC Johnson College of Business Information Technology (IT) department plays a critical role in the success of the College by providing the technology and systems required to fulfill the mission. Our team members collaborate and partner with customers, IT@Cornell, top peer business schools, and vendors to solve problems, provide innovative and valuable business solutions, and share knowledge and resources across the campus. The intimate knowledge of the business functions of the college, the IT department's collaborative personal relationships with the customers and the pride in what they do helps to set them apart. The department enhances the ability for college personnel to do their jobs effectively and make their lives easier and more productive by providing flexible and user-friendly technology solutions which are helpful and provide a positive user experience. The department is agile and responds quickly as the priorities and needs change. This Position:


The Associate Director of Project Management, Governance and Relationship Management will provide leadership for the project management and business relationship team, supervise staff, and manage projects that support the operation of the SC Johnson College of Business, research and implement new systems and set standards and participate in setting direction for college IT.


Reporting to the Executive Director of IT, this position is a member of the leadership team for the department and assists with setting internal IT practices, works to identify opportunities for efficiency and maintains a strong high-performing team that is well-respected throughout Cornell.


Responsibilities include fostering an entrepreneurial team culture, overseeing training and development of the project management team, handling project assignments and resource management, resolving complex issues collaboratively, and ensuring adherence to policies and standards. Additionally, the position involves leading or co-leading significant projects, coordinating with various departments, advising on project planning and budgets, and implementing effective methodologies. Managing project tools, maintaining governance standards, contributing to organizational leadership and strategy, and participating in IT strategic planning are also key aspects of this multifaceted role.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 5-7 years of experience managing technology systems and/or projects.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with business partners and other technical professionals.
  • Previous experience as a people leader.
  • Strong written and verbal Communication skills. Excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Team Dynamix Project Management Module
  • Project Management Institute Certification
  • Experience managing team members who are hybrid or remote employees.
