Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) with four (4) years of related full-time experience will be considered. Two (2) years of full-time procurement experience. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word (create and edit documents) and Microsoft Excel (add, manipulate, sort, and filter data, pivot tables, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a similar field. Experience with Jaggaer (WolfMart), Ariba, Coupa, or other applicable procure-to-pay system(s). Certified Purchasing or Supply Chain Management credentials. Experience working in a New York State purchasing department in higher education, a non-profit organization, or a local government agency.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Senior Buyer will support the purchasing needs of Stony Brook University researchers, faculty, and support staff in alignment with procurement policies and funding sources. The selected candidate must have excellent communication skills as they will be responsible for communicating and negotiating with suppliers and internal stakeholders. A detail-oriented and organized individual is essential for this role, as they will be responsible for handling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining schedule requirements. Your primary responsibility is to purchase services and commodities for your category, this includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts with suppliers to ensure compliance with state, legal and university requirements. This role collaborates closely with various departments within SBU such as legal, finance, and your business stakeholders. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with some New York State Agencies such as the Office of the State Comptroller (OSC), the Attorney General Office (AG), and the Office of General Services (OGS). The incumbent must be a problem-solver with a strong work ethic, as well as having the capability to provide superior customer service. The successful candidate should be capable of satisfying end-users' needs in an effective and timely manner. The incumbent will be expected to comply with all Federal, State, Research Foundation (RF), SUNY, and Stony Brook standards, policies, and regulations.

This includes but is not limited to Scientific, Laboratory, Medical Supplies, Equipment & Services, M.R.O Services & Supplies, and Office General Supplies. This role involves developing and implementing sourcing strategies, negotiating agreements & pricing, and building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. The Senior Buyer ensures that Campus & Research procurement activities align with the SBU's goals, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements.
Administrative Services Category
The Senior Buyer for this category is responsible for managing the procurement activities related to Administrative Services & Support products and services for the university. This includes but is not limited to Professional Services, Advertising & Marketing, Banking, Commencement, Trademark/Licensing, Leases and Revenue Contracts. This role involves developing and implementing sourcing strategies, negotiating agreements & pricing, and building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. The Senior Buyer ensures that administrative and professional services procurement activities align with the SBU's goals, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements.
Construction, Transportation & Trade Services Category
The Senior Buyer for this category is responsible for managing the procurement activities related to Construction, Transportation & Trade services for the university. This includes but is not limited to Construction, Architectural & Engineering Design Services, Electrical, HVAC/Mechanical, Roofing, Vehicles Purchase & Maintenance, and Parking & Garage Services. This role involves developing and implementing sourcing strategies, negotiating agreements & pricing, and building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. The Senior Buyer ensures that administrative and professional services procurement activities align with SBU's goals, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements.
Health Services Category
The Senior Buyer for this category is responsible for managing the procurement activities related to the Health Sciences Center & Basic Science Tower. This includes but is not limited to Facilities, Construction, and M.R.O. services. Additionally, the Senior Buyer is responsible for the initial review of all contracts involving both the Health Sciences Center (HSC) and the Basic Science Tower (BST). This role involves developing and implementing sourcing strategies, negotiating agreements & pricing, and building strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders. The Senior Buyer ensures that administrative and professional services procurement activities align with SBU's goals, budgetary constraints, and regulatory requirements.

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
