What is the opportunity?

The Director of SRE will be responsible for the vision, design, development, implementation, and support of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) solutions for all applications across a line of business within CNB (City National Bank), an RBC company. This individual is expected to lead a team that drives technology transformation for a business vertical and collaborates with teams across other lines of business to drive strategic priorities, improve risk profile, serve as an agent of change to meet evolving business and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will need expert knowledge and extensive experience leading an application development and/or technology operations organization to ensure operational excellence and maximum platform stability through consistent practice of building and operating reliable systems at scale.

What will you do?

  • Set vision for SRE product-base (i.e., chaos engineering, anomaly detection, self-healing resiliency, etc.)
  • Partner closely with development teams from early in the development lifecycle to ensure connectivity and shared objectives to build more resilient and supportable platforms
  • Responsible for ensuring maximum system availability and rapid and precise remediation to issues with a bias towards automated system to curb impact of disruptions to our clients
  • Proactive management and governance of our technology investment through a systematic metrics bases approach to drive improved scalability, performance, and efficiency
  • Define License to Operate (LTO) and adherence to this standard to improve the soundness of our operating environment
  • Provide expertise, direction, coaching and development to build the team capability

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related breadth of experience
  • Prior in-depth experience in supporting large-scale, enterprise-wide banking platforms
  • Extensive experience in a variety of environments (Cloud, distributed and mainframe, business workflows, and Services/APIs, databases).
  • Proven ability to manage vendor and 3rd party relationship to optimize services and ensure effective technology solutions
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership position with a track record of successfully managing complex enterprise environment and driving continuous improvement. Typically requires 10 -12 years of related experience in Software Engineering (SDLC, Architecture, Design, Development, working knowledge of high-level languages such as Python) and Operations (SRE, DevOps, Cloud, Data) with 4 to 7 years of people management experience
  • Hands-on experience in a variety of SRE languages and tools (i.e., Ansible, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Blue Prism, Catch Point, Grafana, etc.)

Nice-to-have

  • People leadership experience in the context of SRE and/or Application Development teams
  • Industry-specific certifications, especially in SRE, are highly advantageous
  • Certifications in cloud platforms, DevOps, microservices, and AI/ML also preferred

The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $160,000 - $250,000 depending on factors including but not limited to the candidate's experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs.This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
