Responsibilities

Job Summary
The ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY SUPPORT ASSISTANT is responsible for supporting the Anatomic Pathology department and Pathologists with clerical and ancillary duties. Is responsible for producing quality patient care through Laboratory Services to patients of all age groups. Maintains confidentiality in the handling of all laboratory data. Will act as "frontline" representative for the department and must maintain a polite and friendly disposition.
  • Supports Anatomic Pathology by providing administrative operational functions including triaging and processing complex specimen orders in a timely manner with minimal guidance, assisting with the preparation of clinical reports, handles add on orders, and requests for additional materials to assure excellent quality and customer service.
  • Handles routine telephone inquiries and messages courteously and efficiently. Refers other inquiries to appropriate person and follows through with requests, takes messages, transfers calls and/or investigates situations as needed.
  • Maintenance of records and assistance with front office duties to include patient and provider interactions by phone and face to face, result retrieval, and coordination of samples/documents with pathologist and lab management.
  • Handles special requests for reference lab testing and tracks the entire process including the request to outside facilities for materials through to the receipt of the results.
  • Prepares materials for shipping to outside facilities and reference labs and unpacks the return of materials as well.
  • Participates in managing archived slides/blocks including sending for long term storage and retrieval requests.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education
High School Diploma or GED Required

Experience
Excellent communication and computer skills Required
1 year Laboratory Experience Required
