Position Description

Position Purpose:
To ensure legal certainty for equity derivatives trade transactions. Keep trade confirmations processing spreadsheets for ESP CAD, GAT CAD, GAT UST and ESP US transits, draft and process trade confirmations. Work requires close attention to detail in the drafting process and while reviewing trade tickets and counterparties’ confirmations. Work includes specialized training. Strong knowledge of ISDA Equity Derivatives Definitions and ISDA Definitions is required for efficient performance. Exceptions to processing are reviewed by Supervisor to ensure overall compliance with accepted ISDA practices and firm’s policies.

Key Accountabilities:
* Review plain-vanilla and structured deals’ confirmations drafted by other team members
* Process trade confirmations for Volatility Arbitrage Trading in MarkitWire.
* Resolve economic and legal discrepancies through collaboration with Back Office and trading desks.
* Negotiate terms of contingency contract with counterparties (broker-dealers, hedge funds, mutual funds, etc) to lower the firm’s risk exposure in case of merger, acquisition, market disruption, etc. in respect of the underlier
* Draft and process Structured Derivative Confirmations for trading desks in New York and Toronto
* Draft templates for new types of structured deals.
* Update Incumbency Certificates and Lists of Authorized Signatories of firm’s counterparties.
* Provide ISDA standards and definitions expertise to marketers and traders
* Phone counterparties to confirm receipt of confirmations and, where necessary, resolve any issues that contribute to delays in the counterparties’ executing and returning such confirmations.
* Maintain management reports, which involves ensuring on a daily basis the Structured Derivatives Documentation Group’s receipt of all deal tickets, liaising with Back Office as necessary; and tracking unexecuted and fully executed confirmations.
* Maintain file cabinets, which contains the hard copies of executed confirmations, sending dead confirmations to off-site storage periodically for archiving.
* Maintain virtual library of stored confirmations (soft copies).
* Understand department procedures and required accountabilities in the area or department in which the incumbent works.

Job Requirements: (Knowledge/ Experience):
REQUIRED:
* Bachelor’s degree plus three years job-related experience.
* Strong drafting, mathematical skills, logic and organizational skills.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of personalities.
* Knowledge of ISDA Equity Derivatives Definitions and ISDA Definitions.
* Ability to work independently and within a team environment with ability to meet deadlines.
* Able to handle requests for immediate drafting of trade confirmation in a fast paced, pressured environment. .

PREFERRED:
* Previous experience in the securities industry.
* Good understanding of equity derivative products.
* Previous experience in the legal industry.
* Proficient computer skills in Windows-based software products such as Outlook, Word and Excel.
